FEEL
THE VIBE

The beautiful costumes, full of feathers and glitter, are a tribute to the double roots of the people known as caboclo: half Europeans, descendants of our colonizers, half indigenous, descendants of the locals at the time of discovery.

From the Europeans they inherited a taste for the brilliance and exuberance of our gold. From the Indians they inherited the use of materials from our exuberant nature and, thus, what we see are gourds, eye-catching bird feathers and many golden details in the costumes used in this Festival.

The dance, with quick, vigorous steps and the incessant movement of bows, arrows and spears echo their conflicted origins.

In Recife's Carnival, the caboclinhos Festival honors this warrior people who today fight to preserve their identity and to maintain and value the cultural traits of both peoples they represent. A party that remembers the best of each of their (and our) ancestors.
